A Typical Day at CRB
Enjoy the slideshow below showing what a day at Camp River’s Bend may hold for your son!
Each morning begins with the ringing of the camp bell and campers make their way to the flag raising to start the day.
Each morning the entire camp assembles to raise the flag to the sound of the bugle call
Every morning starts with a brief yet thought- provoking camp wide devotional highlighting themes such as Integrity, Family, Friendship, Resilience, Sportsmanship, Kindness, and Gratitude. These devotions set the tone for the day ahead, provide a focus for improvement in all camp activities, and give rise to greater reflection during evening cabin devotions.
All of our meals at CRB are prepared by our top notch kitchen staff in our brand new Mess Hall. Here at Camp River’s Bend we believe in good meals served family style. Senior counselors sit at the head of each of our tables and ensure campers eat a hearty and balanced meal.
Campers straighten their trunks, shake their sheets, make their beds, and sweep out their cabins, all the while learning about teamwork and organization.
Campers rotate through nine different activities, with optional days that allow them to return and enjoy the ones they are most passionate about. Campers are placed into activity groups by age that differ from their cabin-mates.
Campers have the opportunity to swim, fish, or canoe at our waterfront, all while being monitored by certified lifeguards.
Sitting around the lunch table campers enjoy good conversation and the opportunity to sit and get to know one another better. Counselors at each table focus on instilling proper table manners and showing gratitude for our food along with the hands that prepare it.
After a full morning of activities and big meal, campers spend the hottest part of the day enjoying a rest in their cabins. Campers are encouraged to do summer reading, write letters, play quietly, or nap.
Each activity group rotates through our nine different activities, which include Campcraft, Archery, Basketball, Riflery, Horseback Riding, Fieldsports, Craftshop, Baseball, Canoeing, and Fishing
In addition to our waterfront activities, campers may also use this time to enjoy supervised free time where they can read, play board games, organize pick up games of various sports, or any other variety of smaller activities. Campers enjoy the autonomy to make their own decisions, while counselors help organize, manage, and participate in these camper led activities.
Did we mention delicious food and good friends?
After dinner activities differ from morning and afternoon activities. There are not set activity groups and they follow no set rotation. While some nights have scheduled basketball games, league games, and singalongs, other nights may include ultimate frisbee, capture the flag, or other large group games. It is always fun to come together across age groups and enjoy the cool evenings the mountains have to offer!
Each night campers have time to shower and brush their teeth before we settle down for evening devotions in the cabin. These important times of reflection allow counselors and campers to share thoughts on the day, strengthen our understanding of camp values, and make goals for tomorrow.
Each day ends with the playing of taps as campers drift off to sleep in the cool mountain air.
